Scrambled Eggs, Sliced Tomato, and One Pug With a Paw on the Table
Scrambled eggs, sliced tomato, and a little avocado on a white plate, and one very interested pair of eyes. Grandpa sits at a weathered wooden table on the sunny patio in a gray sweater, beaming down at Mochi with an open, delighted smile. The black pug has hooked one front paw over the edge of the table and tilted his head back, gazing up as though they're in the middle of an important conversation about breakfast. A steaming mug, a fork resting on a folded napkin, and a few crumbs sit on the table, while potted plants and a wooden fence glow in the morning sun behind them.
If you'd like to share breakfast with your dog, a small amount of plain cooked egg is often considered a safe treat for many dogs, but skip butter, salt, and seasonings. Avocado is best kept off the menu, as parts of it can be harmful to dogs and the pit is a choking hazard. Onions, garlic, and grapes are also on the no list. Pugs love food and easily gain weight, so any extras should be small and counted as part of the day's calories. When in doubt about a new food, check with your vet. A dog bowl set out at the same time as your plate can make mealtimes feel shared without the begging.
Mochi will probably get a tiny taste of egg, and Grandpa will pretend he didn't plan it all along. Some mornings are simply made for sharing.
