Grandma and Grandpa Hung the Sheets on the Line. Then Misty Went Airborne.
Laundry day, and the white sheets are finally on the line. Grandma, in a green cardigan, pins up one corner with a wooden clothespin and a big smile, while Grandpa, in a brown vest and plaid shirt, fastens the other end. A basket of pins and folded towels waits nearby. And then, in mid-air between the billowing sheets, comes Misty the Russian Blue, legs stretched out, paws reaching, caught in a perfect flying leap as she bursts through the gap like a furry acrobat.
Cats are remarkable jumpers, able to leap several times their own body length thanks to powerful hind leg muscles and a flexible spine. Moving fabric like sheets flapping in the breeze triggers their natural hunting instincts, since anything that moves unpredictably might be prey. Russian Blues are often gentle and reserved, but they also have a playful side and enjoy a good game, especially with people they trust. Activities that let cats run, jump, and pounce are good for their muscles and their mood. Just keep an eye on clotheslines and clothespins, since a cat could get tangled in a low line or chew a fallen pin.
The sheets might need one more wash after this, but no one seems to mind. With a laugh and a little patience, laundry day has turned into the best entertainment of the week.
