It Started With Resting Their Eyes for a Minute in the Rope Hammock
Strung between two sturdy tree trunks, a cream rope hammock sags under a precious load. Grandpa in a light blue short-sleeved shirt has dozed off with his head on a cushion, and Grandma in a gray cardigan has nestled beside him, glasses still on. Rufus lies curled across their legs, chin resting on Grandma's knee, ears pooled like dropped velvet. Behind them, a lamp glows softly, baskets of folded blankets sit stacked up, and leafy branches frame the whole drowsy picture. It is the kind of nap that starts with just resting your eyes for a minute.
Hammocks can be a cozy place to share with a pet, but a little caution goes a long way. Dogs can struggle with the swaying motion, and jumping in or out of a hammock can strain the back and joints, especially for long-bodied breeds like Basset Hounds that are prone to back issues. Lifting a dog in with support under both the chest and hindquarters, or letting him rest on a padded mat underneath, is often safer. Check that the hammock is rated for the combined weight, and keep nails trimmed so paws do not catch in the rope weave.
However they all managed to get in there, nobody seems in a hurry to get out. The breeze can rock them as long as it likes.
