The First Snow Started Falling, and Grandpa Knew Exactly Who Needed to See It

AI imagetuxedo catwintergrandparents

Snow is coming down softly over the backyard, dusting bare branches and the top of a wooden fence. Inside, Grandpa has scooped Domino up and is holding him close to the old window frame so he can get a good look. The man is all crinkled smile and flannel; the cat is all business, ears forward and golden eyes fixed on the drifting flakes, white paws tucked against Grandpa's hand.

Window watching is one of the simplest and best forms of enrichment for indoor cats. Birds, squirrels, falling leaves, and snow all give a cat something to track and think about, which helps with boredom. A sturdy window perch or a cleared sill lets a cat enjoy the view on its own schedule. In winter, keep in mind that older homes can have drafty windows, so a cozy blanket nearby is a kind touch. If your cat spends time outdoors, cold weather calls for extra care: frostbite and hypothermia are real risks, antifreeze is dangerous if licked, and cats sometimes crawl into warm car engines, so a gentle knock on the hood before starting the car is a good habit.

For Domino, though, the snow is strictly a spectator sport. Watching it from the safety of Grandpa's arms is about as adventurous as he needs to get today.

There's something reassuring about two old friends sharing a quiet moment while the world outside turns white.
