Grandpa Hank Brought a Shopping List to the Market. Ziggy Brought Attitude.
The farmers market is in full swing: wooden tables stacked with tomatoes and cucumbers, baskets of green beans and lemons, garden tools leaning against the fence. Down the dusty center aisle comes Hank, hunched a little in his overalls and rolled plaid sleeves, a leather leash looped loosely in one hand. At the other end, Ziggy trots along in a harness with his tail held high and his head turned toward the produce, eyes bright, looking every bit like a regular who knows exactly which stall has the best stuff.
Leash walking a cat is very doable with patience, and active breeds like Bengals often take to it well. The key is a harness designed for cats, not just a collar, so the cat can't slip free and pressure isn't placed on the neck. Start by letting your cat wear the harness at home for short periods, rewarding calm behavior with treats, then practice in a quiet yard before trying anywhere busy. Crowded places with dogs, strollers, and loud noises can be a lot for any cat, so keep visits short and have an exit plan. Not every cat will enjoy it, and that's perfectly okay.
Ziggy, though, seems to be loving every minute. Hank may be the one with the shopping list, but it's pretty clear who's setting the pace.
