The First Snow Came Overnight. Grandma Ruth Knew Exactly Who Had to See It.
A fresh blanket of snow covers the garden outside, frosting the bare shrubs, the stacked planters, and a green watering can left out from summer. Ruth stands at the open window frame in her denim shirt, her long silver braid falling over one shoulder, holding Saffron up so the Abyssinian can see it all. Saffron stretches tall in her arms, cinnamon coat glowing against the white, ears pricked and gaze fixed on something far out in the yard. Ruth watches the cat instead of the snow, smiling softly. A cup of tea waits on the sill.
Abyssinians are known as one of the most curious and active cat breeds, often described as busy explorers who want to see everything happening around them. They tend to love high places and good vantage points, so a sturdy window perch or a cat tree near a window can be a real gift. Winter can be a slow season for indoor cats, and watching birds, falling snow, or squirrels outside offers welcome mental stimulation. If you open a window for a better view, make sure the screen is secure, and keep an eye on drafts so a cat doesn't sit for hours in the cold.
Saffron seems thoroughly satisfied with her winter tour. And Ruth, judging by her smile, is enjoying the view of her cat just as much as the snow.
