Croissant, Coffee, Fresh Berries. Moose Made Sure Grandma Edie Saw His Best Face.
Breakfast is laid out on a weathered wooden table: a flaky croissant, a mug of milky coffee, a bowl of yogurt topped with strawberries and blueberries, and a crumpled blue napkin. Grandma Edie sits in the morning light, green quilted vest over a gray tee, resting a hand on Moose's head while she smiles down at him. The Saint Bernard parks his chin right beside the table and gazes up with wide, hopeful eyes, the picture of a dog who has never been fed in his whole life. Behind them, potted rosemary and a sunny garden path complete the scene.
Breakfast tables can be tempting for dogs, and some common foods deserve caution. A few plain blueberries or a slice of strawberry are generally fine as an occasional treat. Buttery pastries, on the other hand, are high in fat and offer nothing a dog needs, and coffee contains caffeine, which is harmful to dogs. Many dogs also struggle with dairy, so a big spoonful of yogurt can backfire. If you like to share, set aside a dog-safe portion before you sit down, so begging does not get rewarded at random. Consistency is the kindest way to keep mealtimes calm.
Of course, a little head pat counts as sharing too, and Moose seems to accept it graciously. With the sun warming the patio and a friend at the table, it is hard to imagine a better way to start the day.
