Her Favorite Song Came on the Radio, and Grandma Edie Needed a Dance Partner
Somewhere a song is playing, and Grandma Edie has decided the kitchen is now a dance floor. She sways in her green quilted vest and cream sweater, one hand drifting out as she smiles down at her partner. Moose stands close with his tail curled high, mouth open in a wide, toothy grin, his whole body wiggling along. The small kitchen is full of life: bananas and onions in a basket, a checked towel on the counter, a potted plant, mugs on the shelves, and a fridge covered in snapshots and drawings.
Music and movement are good for body and mind at any age. Light dancing gets people moving, helps with balance and coordination, and almost always lifts the mood. Dogs often pick up on that joy, responding to a happy voice and gentle motion with tail wags and bounces of their own. When dancing with a big dog nearby, though, a little caution helps. A Saint Bernard can easily bump knees or step on toes, and kitchen floors can be slippery, so non-slip shoes and a clear space make the fun safer. Short, playful moments like this are a lovely way to share energy without overdoing it.
Not every celebration needs a reason. Sometimes it is just a favorite song on the radio, a warm kitchen, and a big dog who thinks you are the best dancer in the world. Grandma Edie and Moose make a fine pair on any dance floor.
