Grandma Bea Hung Up the Last Clean Sheet. Then Dumpling Found the Gap.
Crisp white sheets flutter from a sagging clothesline, held up by a row of wooden pins, and right through the middle of them barrels Dumpling. The white Bulldog bounds forward with his tongue out and ears flapping, clearly convinced that laundry day is a game invented just for him. Grandma Bea, in a cozy oatmeal cardigan over a gray tee, reaches up to pin one more corner and smiles at the commotion. A blue laundry basket of clothespins and towels sits at her feet, and a wooden bench, a watering can, and a scatter of shoes line the patio.
Bulldogs are often thought of as couch potatoes, but many have short bursts of playful energy, sometimes called the zoomies. These quick dashes are a normal way for dogs to release energy and excitement. For Bulldogs, it is best to keep those bursts short and avoid hot weather, since their flat faces make it harder for them to cool down. Their heavy front ends and short legs can also make sudden turns on slippery surfaces risky, so play areas with good footing are ideal. Daily play and short walks help keep this breed fit, which matters since Bulldogs can gain weight easily.
The sheets may end up with a pawprint or two, but the laughter is worth a second wash. Grandma Bea has a clothesline full of fresh laundry and a backyard full of joy, all thanks to one very enthusiastic helper.
