The Driveway Needed Shoveling. Saffron Found the Snowbank First.
Fresh snow blankets the yard, and the driveway won't clear itself. Ruth, bundled in a green puffer coat and knit hat, pushes a blue shovel through the snow with a grin, while Harold, in a navy beanie and brown jacket, works the path right behind her. Their supervisor has other priorities. Saffron is standing in the fluffy snowbank beside the shovels, one paw lifted, ears up, looking delighted and slightly surprised by the cold white stuff underfoot. Snow-covered shrubs, a wooden fence, and a warmly lit window glow in the background.
Abyssinians have a short, fine coat with no thick undercoat, so they aren't built for long stretches in freezing weather. A few minutes of supervised play in the snow can be fun for a curious cat, but keep visits short and bring your cat in at the first sign of shivering or lifted, cold paws. Wipe feet afterward, since de-icing salt and chemicals can irritate pads and are harmful if licked off. Antifreeze is especially dangerous, so clean up drips in the driveway or garage right away. Indoors, a warm bed or blanket helps a cat recover from its snowy adventure.
Harold and Ruth may be doing all the heavy lifting, but Saffron is clearly having the most fun. Some chores go faster with help, and some just go happier.
