Domino Has a Bedtime Routine, and Grandpa Ken Follows It Exactly
Bedtime comes with full service in this house. Grandpa Ken bends over a plush gray pet bed, carefully folding the edge of a cream knitted blanket around Domino's shoulders. The tuxedo cat sits snug in the middle with his white chest showing and his eyes half closed, looking like a guest at a very good hotel. Ken wears a cable-knit vest over a blue plaid shirt, his glasses low on his nose as he concentrates. Around them, the apartment hums with ordinary life: a bag of groceries with green onions poking out, slippers by the door, and laundry waiting on a chair.
Cats spend a large share of the day asleep, so a comfortable bed is a worthwhile purchase. Many cats prefer beds with raised sides, which feel enclosed and secure, and they often love a soft layer they can knead. Placing the bed in a quiet, draft-free spot away from foot traffic helps a cat relax. Older cats in particular appreciate warmth and easy access, so a low-sided bed near a sunny window or a heating vent (not touching it) can be a nice choice. Washing blankets regularly keeps fur and dander down, though many cats like a little familiar scent left behind, so swapping in one clean blanket at a time can help.
Domino looks perfectly willing to be pampered for as long as Ken keeps tucking. Nobody ever said a cat needed to make his own bed.
