Grandpa Ken Rolled Out His Yoga Mat for Morning Stretches. He Got a Surprise Partner.
Morning stretches are underway in the living room. Grandpa Ken sits on a sage green yoga mat in a gray sweater vest and long-sleeved shirt, his palms pressed flat on the mat and a small, satisfied smile on his face. Beside him, Yuki has joined in. The snow Bengal stretches long and low across the mat, front paws reaching forward and back legs extended, looking up with her bright blue eyes as if checking whether she has the pose right. A few tufts of shed fur dot the mat. Behind them sits a cozy room with a basket of yarn, a coffee mug on the side table, slippers on a shelf, and a plaid throw over the couch.
Gentle stretching is a popular way for older adults to stay limber, and doing it alongside a pet can make the routine more fun. Cats themselves are masters of stretching. They often stretch after naps, which helps wake up their muscles and get blood flowing. Bengals are especially athletic and flexible, with long, muscular bodies built for leaping and climbing. If your cat likes to join your exercise time, keep the area clear of anything that might trip you, and move slowly so neither of you gets startled. For new exercise routines, it is always wise to check with your own doctor first.
Yuki may not be following a class, but she has the form down. Ken has a new workout partner, and judging by his smile, it is the best one he has ever had.
