Grandpa Kenji Made Eggs on the Patio. Maple Asked Very Politely for a Taste.
Scrambled eggs, half an avocado, toast, blueberries, and a cup of black coffee make for a fine patio breakfast. Grandpa Kenji, in a green diamond-knit sweater vest, leans down toward Maple with a big, warm grin, and she looks back at him nose to nose, ears upright, the picture of polite hope. Behind them, a wooden fence, potted shrubs, and a cushioned bench frame a calm backyard morning under a soft gray sky.
Breakfast with a dog nearby is a good time to know which foods are safe to share. Plain cooked eggs, without butter, salt, or seasoning, are generally fine for most dogs in small amounts. A few blueberries can make a nice treat. Avocado is a different matter, though: the pit is a choking and blockage hazard, and the skin and flesh are rich and fatty, so it's best kept off the dog menu. Coffee should stay well out of reach, since caffeine isn't safe for dogs. Buttered toast isn't toxic, but fatty extras add up quickly. Treats of any kind should make up only a small part of a dog's daily diet, so a nibble or two is plenty. If you're unsure about a food, talk to your vet before sharing.
Huskies are often less food-obsessed than some breeds, but that doesn't stop them from showing interest when eggs are involved. Maple's patient stare is doing a lot of quiet persuading.
It's hard to resist a face like that across the table. Grandpa Kenji might just set aside a spoonful of plain eggs for his loyal breakfast companion.
