An elderly man wrapped in a cream knit cardigan sleeps on a grassy lawn with a grey Sphynx cat curled asleep beside him. 12 / 29

Grandpa Lay Down on the Lawn for a Quick Rest. He Didn't Stay Alone for Long.

Out on a patch of soft green grass, Clarence has stretched out on his side, wrapped in a thick cream cable-knit cardigan that looks as warm as a blanket. His eyes are closed and his face is completely relaxed, cheek resting on his own arm. Curled into the folds of the sweater right beside him, Moonpie has her eyes squeezed shut and her chin tucked down, the wrinkles on her forehead smoothed out in sleep. A wooden fence, potted plants and a garden path fade softly into the background.

Sunbathing is a favorite pastime for many cats, and it makes sense: warmth helps them conserve energy, and cats generally like temperatures a bit warmer than people do. For a Sphynx, though, sunlight comes with a caution. With no fur to block the rays, their skin can burn, particularly on lighter or pink areas, and long exposure can be uncomfortable. Short sun breaks, shady spots nearby and easy access to fresh water help keep outdoor naps safe. A light, breathable cat shirt can also offer some protection, and some owners ask their vet about pet-safe sun protection. Indoors, a sunny window seat gives the same cozy glow with fewer risks.

Clarence and Moonpie have found the simplest kind of happiness here: warm grass, soft knitwear and absolutely nowhere else to be.
