The Rain Came Down Hard, and Grandma Edie and Miso Had Front-Row Seats
Rain is coming down in silver streaks just past the edge of the porch roof, pattering on the garden and pooling on the wooden steps. Grandma Edie sits safely under cover in her green quilted vest and gray sweater, white hair tied back, gazing out toward the yard with a calm, faraway look. Miso lies stretched across the porch rail beside her, dark paws crossed, her chocolate mask turned toward the viewer and those vivid blue eyes wide open. Warm lamplight glows from the doorway behind them, and potted plants line the wet floorboards.
Many cats are fascinated by rain, even if they have no interest in getting wet. Watching drops fall, birds sheltering, and leaves moving can be great mental stimulation, sometimes called cat TV. A safe window perch or a screened porch lets them enjoy the show. Siamese cats are known for being especially curious and attentive, and they often want to be wherever their people are. If your cat does get caught in the rain, towel them gently and let them finish drying somewhere warm. Storms with thunder can frighten some cats, so a quiet hiding spot indoors is always a good idea.
Neither Edie nor Miso has anywhere to be. The rain will keep falling, the lamp will keep glowing, and two old friends will keep watching it, side by side, for as long as the weather lasts.
