Grandma Edie Climbed Into Her Old Pickup and Found Someone in the Driver's Seat

Somebody has to drive, and Miso has clearly decided it will be her. The Siamese sits tall on the worn bench seat right beside the big steering wheel, chest puffed out, blue eyes staring straight ahead with total confidence. Grandma Edie has slid over to the passenger side in her olive quilted vest and plaid shirt, smiling at her furry chauffeur with obvious amusement. The old pickup's cab is faded and well-loved, with cracked upholstery, a bare metal dash, and a windshield that looks out onto a white house with potted flowers lining the porch. Thankfully, the truck is parked in the driveway.

Cats in cars need a bit of planning. A loose cat in a moving vehicle can distract the driver, slip under the pedals, or be injured in a sudden stop. The safest way for a cat to travel is in a secured, well-ventilated carrier, ideally buckled into the back seat or wedged securely on the floor. Many cats find car rides stressful, so short practice trips, a familiar blanket in the carrier, and calm handling can help. Never leave a cat alone in a parked car, since temperatures inside can become dangerous quickly, even on mild days.

Miso will not actually be taking the old truck anywhere, but she looks ready for a long road trip. For now, the two of them are content to sit in the cab and enjoy a quiet moment, going nowhere at all.
