Grandma Set the Patio Table for Breakfast. Cotton Noticed the Croissant First.
Breakfast is served on the patio, and the spread looks delicious. A blue mug of coffee steams on the table next to a plate with a flaky croissant, a bowl of scrambled eggs, and a couple of plump blackberries, with neatly folded napkins tucked beside them. Ruth sits in her olive vest and plaid shirt, beaming down at Cotton through her glasses. The Bichon has pressed up close to the table, red collar peeking out from his curls, gazing up at her with that classic hopeful look. Garden chairs, potted succulents, and a wooden fence make the backyard feel snug and private.
Sharing breakfast with a dog is tempting, but not everything on the plate is safe. Plain, fully cooked eggs without butter, salt, or seasoning are generally fine for most dogs as an occasional treat. Croissants and pastries, on the other hand, are high in butter and fat and offer nothing a dog needs. Coffee should always be kept out of reach, since caffeine is harmful to pets. Some berries, like blueberries, are often considered dog-friendly in small amounts, but grapes and raisins are toxic and should never be shared. When in doubt, a bit of your dog's own kibble or a dog treat is the safest choice.
Whether Cotton gets a tiny taste of egg or simply a scratch under the chin, he clearly feels like a guest of honor. With sunshine, coffee, and a fluffy companion, Ruth's mornings are hard to beat.
