The Clean Sheets Were Almost on the Line When Misha Made Her Move

Clothespins in hand, the sheets are almost up, and then a grey blur comes sailing through. Frank and Dot stand on either side of a backyard clothesline in matching grey sweaters, pinning up white and pale blue linens outside their blue clapboard house. Misha has chosen this exact moment to launch herself from the line, front paws reaching for the laundry basket below, her body stretched mid-leap between two sheets. Frank watches through his glasses with an amused grin, and Dot is laughing outright. A watering can, potted plants, and a basket of folded linens fill the porch behind them.

Hanging sheets make a fantastic hideaway for a cat. Fabric that sways and rustles invites stalking, pouncing, and peekaboo, and the shaded space underneath feels safe and enclosed. That kind of exploration is healthy enrichment, but a few precautions help. Cats can catch claws in loose weaves, so lightweight sheets are kinder than delicate items, and a cat who climbs on a line can bring it down. Keep laundry products such as detergent pods, bleach, and fabric softener sheets securely stored, since chewing or licking them can be harmful. Indoors, always check the washer and dryer before running them, because a warm drum full of fresh clothes is a tempting nap spot. Offering a cardboard box or a tunnel can satisfy that urge to hide and ambush, and rotating toys keeps it interesting.

The sheets may need a second shake before they dry. Judging by their laughter, Frank and Dot don't mind one bit.
