Grandma June Hung Fresh White Sheets on the Line. Domino Saw a Racetrack.

The clothesline is full, the breeze is blowing, and Domino has discovered the best game in the backyard. Grandma June, in her cream cable-knit cardigan and denim shirt, reaches up to pin a white sheet in place with wooden clothespins, her eyes twinkling as she watches the commotion below. The harlequin Great Dane is trotting right through the hanging laundry, mouth wide open in a big happy grin, a sheet brushing over his spotted back as he passes. A blue basket of clothes waits on the patio, and potted flowers and a little rosemary bush line the weathered fence.

Great Danes may look like they would need endless running, but most adults are fairly moderate in their exercise needs. Daily walks and some playful time in a secure yard usually keep them happy. Puppies and young Danes are a different story: they are growing very fast, and many vets advise avoiding long, hard runs, repeated jumping, and forced exercise until their bones and joints have finished developing. Short bursts of free play, like a happy lap through the laundry, are more appropriate. Because of their size and enthusiasm, Danes also benefit from early training in basic manners, such as walking politely and not jumping up on people. Their gentle nature makes them very trainable with patient, reward-based methods, and a well-mannered Dane is a joy to share a home with.

Some of those sheets may need a second wash. But Domino's grin suggests it was absolutely worth it, and Grandma June does not look too upset either.
