Otis Poured a Glass of Lemonade. Mocha Had Her Eyes on It.
The evening light is turning golden on the old porch, and Otis has settled in with a tall glass of lemonade, ice cubes clinking and a striped straw tucked against his lip. His olive cardigan looks soft and well loved, and his glasses catch a little of the glow. Mocha, the seal point Birman, sits right in the foreground with her blue eyes slightly crossed in a look of mild suspicion, her creamy coat fluffed out and her brown tail curled on the boards. A clay pot of green leaves sits behind them, and the neighborhood fence fades into the warm haze.
Porch sitting is one of the simplest pleasures for a cat and a person alike. Cats are fascinated by outdoor sights and sounds, and a shaded or covered porch lets them watch birds, leaves, and passersby without the risks of roaming free. If your cat joins you outside, a harness and leash, or a screened-in space, keeps her safe. Fresh water should always be nearby on warm days, since cats often drink less than they should. Birmans are known as gentle, people-oriented cats, so they tend to be happiest when they can park themselves close to a favorite human and simply keep company.
Mocha has not asked for a sip of lemonade, but she is clearly keeping an eye on the glass just in case. For now, the two of them seem content to let the afternoon slow down.
