Otis Searched the Pumpkin Patch for the Perfect One With Mocha Trailing
Orange pumpkins dot the dirt among tangled green vines and fallen leaves, and Otis picks his way through them in a brown cardigan and khaki pants, glasses on his nose and his eyes on a small phone in his hand. Mocha trots at his side, her blue eyes looking a bit worried and her fluffy coat a pale cream against the brown soil. Her tail trails low and her white paws step carefully over the vines. A weathered wooden fence runs along the back, and a few leaves and gourds are scattered under the bare branches. It has the quiet, slightly untidy charm of a late autumn garden.
Autumn outings can be fun for a cat who likes adventure, but a few precautions help. Use a well-fitted harness and leash rather than letting her roam, because unfamiliar places can startle even a calm cat. Check for burrs and plant bits in her coat afterward. Pumpkins themselves are generally not a big risk, but decorations like candles, and moldy or rotting produce can make a pet sick. Keep her from nibbling vines or leaves, since some garden plants are unsafe for cats. If she seems nervous, head home. Birmans are typically gentle and sociable, so many of them enjoy a slow walk with their favorite person.
Otis is still searching for just the right pumpkin, and Mocha looks like she has a few opinions. Either way, they are in no hurry.
