Earl Rolled Out the Yoga Mat. Pewter Showed Him How It Is Done.
The living room has been turned into a gentle studio, with a sage green yoga mat rolled out on the floor and Earl leaning over it on both hands, glasses perched on his nose. He is looking down at Pewter with a smile of pure amazement, because she has claimed the mat and stretched out long, back legs extended and front paws reaching far past her head. A basket of laundry, a pair of slippers, and an open book are scattered behind them, so this is clearly a home exercise session in progress.
Gentle stretching is a favorite routine for many older adults, and it is nice to have an easy-going partner beside you. Cats do their own version of yoga all day long, often stretching their front legs forward with their rear in the air, then arching their back. That kind of stretch is a normal, healthy part of a cat's day, and it is worth remembering that most cats sleep many hours and then stretch to wake up. For people, slow, comfortable movement is often recommended, and it is smart to talk to a doctor before starting anything new. A mat is a fine place for a cat to rest, but keep a close eye on movement near a cat so no one gets stepped on. Russian Blues are graceful and tend to stay near their favorite person, which makes mat time easy.
Earl was going for a downward dog. Pewter has already mastered the cat version, and she is making it look easy.
