Earl Rolled Up His Pants and Sat at the End of the Dock. Pewter Joined Him.
The water is still and gold with early evening light, and Earl has rolled his pant legs up to sit at the very end of the dock with both bare feet dangling in the lake. Little rings spread out around his ankles. He is grinning with his eyes half closed, in his vest and plaid shirt, enjoying every second. Pewter sits on the weathered boards just beside him with her paws together and her pale green eyes locked on the ripples below. Beyond them, flower beds and a wooden fence line the shore.
Many cats are fascinated by water even if they do not like to get wet. Moving ripples and reflections catch their attention in the same way a toy does, and some cats will tap at the surface with a paw. A dock, though, is a place to be careful. Cats can slip and fall in, and not every cat swims well, so it is wise to supervise closely, keep an eye on the edge, and consider a snug harness and leash for any dock visit. Never leave a cat unattended near open water, and make sure she has a shady spot and fresh drinking water, since lake water is not a safe thing to drink. Russian Blues are known for their calm, watchful personalities, which suits a quiet seat by the water. Your vet can also tell you about parasites that may be found around lakes and ponds.
Earl is happy to let the water cool his feet. Pewter is happy to let it keep her entertained.
