Odessa Poured Herself a Cold Lemonade. Onyx Kept a Very Close Eye on It.
Ice clinks in the glass as Grandma Odessa takes a slow sip of lemonade, a lemon slice floating near the rim. She sits on the shady porch in a soft blue shirt, one earring catching the light, her eyes peacefully half-closed. In the foreground, Onyx sits tall with his big ears flared and his golden eyes locked on the camera, as if he were the one being photographed. Green plants and a wooden railing frame the porch, and a patterned blanket drapes over the bench behind them. The whole scene feels like the pause between one chore and the next.
Hot days call for water, and cats need it just as much as we do. Many cats do not drink enough, so fresh water in several spots around the home, or a pet fountain, can encourage them. Lemonade, citrus and sugary drinks are not for cats, since citrus oils can upset their stomachs and sweet drinks serve no purpose. Devon Rex cats have fine coats and love warm places, but even they can overheat in direct summer sun, so a shady porch is a good choice. Make sure your cat has a cool corner to retreat to, and talk to your vet if he is panting or drooling in the heat.
Odessa sips and Onyx watches. As long as his water bowl is full, he can wait his turn for the shade.
