Grandpa Poured a Tall Lemonade. The Silver Cat Moved In Close

AI imagemaine coonlemonadeporch

The glass is tall and full of ice, with a bright lemon slice floating at the top, and Harold is sipping it through a straw with a faraway, relaxed expression. At his shoulder sits Smoky, a silver Maine Coon with striped markings and a big tufted ruff, her green eyes tracking the glass instead of the man. Potted plants line the porch rail behind them and the sun filters in through the leaves of the yard. It is a lazy, shady corner of a summer afternoon.

Maine Coons are one of the largest domestic cat breeds, known for their tufted ears, bushy tails, and sociable, gentle personalities. Many enjoy being near their people and will happily follow them from room to room, even onto the porch. Cats are naturally curious about glasses and cups, though, and some are drawn to the condensation on the outside. Lemons and other citrus fruits, along with their peels and oils, can upset a cat's stomach and should be kept away from her, and sweet drinks are not good for cats either. Always make sure fresh, clean water is available, and a wide, shallow bowl is often easier on a long-whiskered face. If your cat swallows something she should not, call your vet.

Smoky has decided that supervising the lemonade is her job for the afternoon. Harold seems perfectly happy to be supervised.
