Grandpa Lay Down in the Grass for a Minute. The Cat Joined Him

Both of them are fast asleep in the grass. Harold lies on his side with his white hair ruffled and his red plaid shirt wrinkled, and Smoky is curled up against him in a thick silver crescent, her eyes shut and her paws tucked in. Her big plume of a tail curls around her body. Behind them a fence, a watering can, and a pot of flowers sit in the sunlight, and the whole yard looks calm and golden.

Cats love a warm spot, and a sunny lawn is hard to beat. Maine Coons have thick, long coats, so they can get hot in direct sun, and a shady patch nearby is a good idea. Make sure your cat has fresh water and that she is not lying on hot pavement or near anything hazardous. Grass may hold fleas and ticks, and some garden plants and lawn treatments are toxic to cats, so ask your vet about parasite prevention and check which plants are safe. A cat sleeping outdoors should be supervised or kept in a secure space, since neighborhood animals and traffic can be risks. A quick brush after time outside helps remove burrs and debris.

The grass is soft, the sun is warm, and neither of them has anywhere to be. If anyone ever deserves an afternoon like this, it is probably these two.
