Buttered Toast on the Patio and a Tortoiseshell Cat Waiting Politely
The patio is quiet and the lantern is glowing as Grandma beams down at Maple, who sits on the table in her dark swirled coat. Between them lie a plate of buttered toast, a bowl of strawberries and avocado, a cup of tea, and a small dish of butter. Grandma's hair is pinned up and her cardigan is soft and warm. Behind them, a wooden fence and a garden of herbs and pots fade into the blue light. A faint glow from the lantern lights Grandma's smile and the soft fur on Maple's chest.
Sharing a meal space with a cat is a common joy, but not all human food is safe for cats. Dairy, onions, garlic, and many other foods can upset a cat's stomach or be harmful, and cats should not eat chocolate or grapes. Keep her on her own balanced diet and ask your vet about any treats. Tortoiseshell cats are famously confident, and many love joining the family at mealtimes, even if only to supervise. Fresh water and a regular meal schedule keep a cat content, and a small treat now and then is fine if your vet agrees.
Maple appears to be sitting very politely, her eyes fixed on the toast. Whether she gets any is up to Grandma, and Grandma is already smiling. Breakfast outdoors is lovely, no matter who the guest is.
The day is just waking up, and so is the garden.
