Grandma Held Maple Up to the Window as the Snow Came Down

AI imagetortoiseshell catsnowwindow

Grandma stands by a tall window with her cat held up in front of her, a warm smile on her face and her hair loosely tied back. Maple the tortoiseshell cat gazes out at the snow-covered yard, her ears pricked and her body stretched along Grandma's arms. Outside, white flakes cover the bushes and the fence, and the sky is a pale winter gray. The room around them is simple and homey, with coats on hooks and a plaid cloth on the sill. Some flakes drift past the glass so slowly that they seem to hang in the air.

Snow is a wonder to indoor cats, and window time is a great enrichment activity. Cats love to watch birds, flurries, and moving shadows, and a safe window perch can give her hours of entertainment. Make sure window screens are secure and the window is closed or safely screened if you leave her alone. Winter drafts can chill a cat, so a warm blanket or heated spot nearby is a good idea. A cat's eyes are tuned for movement, so falling flakes can be mesmerizing.

Maple watches every flake with total concentration. Grandma looks pleased to be sharing the view. The snow outside is cold, but the room is warm. Maple's tail twitches whenever a gust sends the flakes swirling.

A first snowfall is worth stopping for.
