Penny Bounced Through the Clothesline Sheets While Grandma Hung Towels
The washing line is full of white sheets and towels fluttering in the breeze, and Grandma stands beside it with a clothespin in her hand and a fond, amused look on her face. Her silver hair is cropped short, a gold earring shines, and her gray cardigan is loose over a navy shirt. Right in the middle of the sheets, Penny the Yorkshire Terrier is caught mid-leap, all four paws off the ground, her ears flying and her tongue out in a joyful grin. A wicker basket of laundry waits on the ground below.
Many dogs love to run through flapping sheets, and it can be a great game for burning off energy. A few precautions help, though: make sure the yard is secure, keep clothespins and small items out of reach, and watch for any lines low enough to snag a dog. Detergent-scented laundry can also tempt a dog to chew, so supervise her. Yorkies are lively and playful, and a good romp in the yard is often exactly what they need.
Penny is having the time of her life, and Grandma does not seem to mind the extra help. The sheets will need to be shaken out again. It is a happy kind of chore. There is plenty of time to finish.
Fresh laundry and a happy dog make a fine afternoon.
