The Devon Rex Fell Asleep After a Long Day in the Garden. He Woke Up With Company.
Golden late-day light spills over a weathered garden shed, a pair of work gloves, and a striped woven rug, where a grey Devon Rex has fallen fast asleep. His wavy, rippled coat looks almost like crushed velvet, and those oversized ears stick straight up even while he snoozes. Three fluffy yellow chicks have tucked themselves right against him. One nestles under his chin, another leans on his paw, and the third sits upright by his chest, looking around as if it drew the short straw for guard duty. Potted herbs and a watering can in the background make the scene feel like the end of a long gardening afternoon.
Devon Rex cats are known for their short, curly coats, big ears, and playful, people-loving personalities. Many owners describe them as clownish and clingy in the best way, often following their humans from room to room. Their thin coat means they can feel the cold more than many cats, so they tend to seek out warm laps, sunny spots, and heated beds. That fine coat also needs gentle care, since rough brushing can damage it. A soft cloth or a quick wipe is often enough. As with any cat, curiosity can turn into hunting instinct around small birds, so real chicks should always be kept safely apart.
In this golden-hour daydream, though, the only thing being hunted is a good nap. Warm rug, warm friends, and nowhere to be. Not a bad way to end a day.
