A Blue Point Ragdoll Toured the Vegetable Patch. Her Crew Arrived on Schedule.
Golden hour is the best time for a garden inspection, and this crew has arrived right on schedule. A fluffy blue point Ragdoll with pale cream fur, smoky gray ears, and wide blue eyes stands among the rows of young vegetables, gazing down at six yellow ducklings bustling through the soil at her feet. Lettuce leaves, tomato seedlings, and sprouting greens surround them, and a copper watering can rests on the path behind. The low sun lights up the ducklings' fluff like little lanterns.
Ducks can actually be handy garden helpers. Adult ducks are enthusiastic foragers and happily gobble up slugs, snails, and many insects, which is why some gardeners welcome them into their beds. The catch is that they are not picky, and they will also nibble tender seedlings and trample delicate plants, so many people let them in only before planting or after harvest, or fence off the most precious crops. It is also important to avoid using slug pellets, pesticides, or chemical fertilizers anywhere ducks, cats, or other pets roam, since many of these products can be toxic if eaten.
For now, these little ones are far too small to do much damage, and the Ragdoll seems more interested in keeping an eye on them than the vegetables. The garden glows, the ducklings explore, and everything feels just a little bit magical in the evening light.
