Biscuit Led the Way Home and the Tabby Followed Right Behind
Evening is settling over a narrow gravel path, and an apricot Goldendoodle is heading down it with his curly tail held high. A gray tabby trots at his heels, close enough to share his shadow, with her green eyes on the path ahead. A porch light glows under the eaves of a small house, and a few brown leaves lie on the gravel. Neither of them looks back.
We might call the dog Biscuit and the cat Tilly. The dog's teddy-bear curls bounce a little with each step, and the cat follows with her tail neatly curved, as if this nightly stroll is a routine they both know by heart.
Goldendoodles are a cross between Golden Retrievers and Poodles. They are generally friendly, social and eager to please, and many have low-shedding coats, though no dog is truly non-allergenic and their curls need frequent brushing. Cats who follow their dogs on walks may simply enjoy company and routine, but outdoor time carries risks like traffic, other animals and parasites, so keep them within a fenced or supervised area, and ask your vet about flea and tick prevention. Evening is a lovely time for a stroll, but in low light it is wise to use reflective gear for dogs near roads.
Biscuit and Tilly look like they are heading home for supper, side by side.
