A Spotted Bengal and a Tortoise Took Over the Warm Laundry Basket
The wicker basket is piled with soft cream towels, and a spotted brown Bengal has claimed the top. She lies with her head up, green eyes alert, her rosette-patterned coat blending into the cozy cloth. At her side, a tortoise sits snug in a nest of towels, head peeking out and shell shining. The wall behind them is pale, and a dim doorway opens to the next room.
Warm laundry is a favorite napping place for cats, and they will often claim it as soon as it comes out of the dryer. Bengals, with their wild-looking coats, are energetic and clever cats that like to climb and explore, so a quiet moment in a basket is a treat. Tortoises like warmth too. Make sure towels are free of loose threads that could snag claws, and that the basket is stable. A tortoise in a basket should be supervised, and your reptile vet can advise on housing and heat.
Let's call the tortoise Gus. He has pulled himself into the folds of a towel and appears quite content. The Bengal keeps watch, her tail twitching now and then. The towels are warm, the room is hushed, and nobody has asked either of them to get out. They look like guests at a very good hotel. It might be the coziest basket in the county.
