An Orange Cat and a Tortoise Wandered Through the Flowers Together
Daisies, clover and tiny yellow flowers dot the grass, and an orange longhaired cat is picking her way through them. Her ears are forward and her golden eyes are fixed on something ahead. Right beside her, Moss the tortoise plods along with his head up and his claws gripping the ground, his shell patterned with brown and gold. A wooden fence and a few garden pots stand behind them.
A patch of flowers is a feast for a tortoise, but not all plants are safe. Some common garden flowers can be harmful to tortoises and cats, so check each plant before letting pets graze or sniff. Safe options for many tortoises include dandelions, clover and some leafy greens, but the right diet depends on the species, so ask your vet. Orange cats are often thought of as friendly and outgoing, and while that is not a rule, it often seems to be true. A shared walk in the garden is a pleasant way to spend a spring afternoon.
The cat leads and the tortoise follows, or perhaps it is the other way around. They are in no hurry, and the flowers are plentiful. The garden has plenty of time for them. If they keep this pace, they will see every flower in the patch by sunset, and neither seems to mind the length of the trip.
