A Devon Rex Cat and a Tortoise Watch Rain Slide Down the Glass

Rain taps against the window, and a gray Devon Rex cat sits with her enormous ears angled forward and her big eyes fixed on the glass. Right beside her on the wooden floor, Gus the tortoise lifts his head to look, too. A lamp casts a warm glow over a corner of the room, and a rolled blanket lies near a potted plant. The cat's short, wavy coat looks almost like velvet, and her thin face gives her a pixie-like look. The tortoise's shell gleams in the lamplight. Nothing about the wet evening seems to bother them. The cat's tail curls around her paws, and her whiskers twitch with each drop.

Devon Rex cats are known for their curly coats, wide-set ears and mischievous personalities. They are often very social and love to be near people, sometimes perching on shoulders. Their fine coats offer less insulation than many cats' fur, so they enjoy warm spots. Tortoises also love warmth and aren't fond of damp, chilly weather, so a dry indoor spot with a heat source is best on rainy days. If a tortoise is allowed indoors, make sure the floor isn't slippery and that cats and other pets can't bother it. Always wash your hands after handling a reptile. A soft rug helps a tortoise keep its footing and keeps the floor from feeling cold.

The rain goes on, but in here there's a warm lamp and good company. The kettle may be on somewhere, but they have all they need right here.
