The Birman Woke Up Under the Quilt and Found She Was Not Alone
Morning has found a seal point Birman cat still tucked under a patchwork quilt, and she is not alone. Her blue eyes are soft and sleepy, her cream coat spread across the covers, her dark face resting calmly. Around her, four fluffy chicks poke out of the folds, some blinking and some still dozing. A knitted blanket, a basket and a few clothes sit in the sunny room behind them.
Birmans are known for their silky coats, sapphire eyes and white gloved paws. They are gentle, affectionate cats that usually enjoy company and tend to be calm around people. Their long fur needs regular brushing to prevent tangles, especially during seasonal shedding. A cozy quilt is a favorite spot for many cats, but if any small animals are nearby, watch carefully, since a sleeping cat can roll and a chick can be easily hurt. Always keep young chicks warm and safe in a proper brooder when not supervised, and wash your hands after handling them. It is wise to ask your vet about safely introducing new pets to a cat.
Waking up slowly is a talent, and the Birman has it. She seems to have all the time in the world, and the chicks are happy to match her pace. It is a gentle start to a very soft morning.
