The Beagle Puppy Took a Wagon Ride Behind Clover the Pony
Along the backyard lawn, the afternoon parade has begun. Clover the pony walks forward in a leather harness, her pale mane tumbling over her eyes, pulling a small wooden wagon filled with straw. Perched in the back, front paws on the rail, is a Beagle puppy with floppy ears and a wide open-mouthed smile, enjoying the ride like a tiny king. Fallen leaves speckle the grass, a wooden fence runs along the back, and flowerpots wait by the house.
Beagles are cheerful, curious scent hounds, and a Beagle puppy on a ride is usually busy sniffing the air for every interesting smell. They are friendly and social, and they tend to love company, but they can also be stubborn and easily distracted by their noses, so training with patience and treats works well. A secure fence matters, since a Beagle that catches an interesting scent may wander off. Ponies do enjoy having a job in many cases, and light carts have been pulled by ponies for generations. Any real harness work should be done carefully, with proper fit and training, so ask an experienced handler for guidance.
The puppy plainly has no worries, and the pony walks with steady, careful steps as if she knows exactly what precious cargo she carries. It is a slow, gentle trip around the yard, and neither passenger nor driver is in any hurry to get to the end of it.
