A Hairless Sphynx Cat Shared the Apple Tree Shade With Six Ducklings

Red apples hang from the branches above, and in the shade below a gray Sphynx cat has settled on a cushion. Her skin is wrinkled and velvety, her ears enormous, and her amber eyes are calm and watchful. Clustered right beside her are six yellow ducklings, tucked together in the soft shade, some sitting upright and others leaning against their siblings. A potted plant, a patio door with a glowing lamp, and a garden hose complete the quiet backyard scene.

Sphynx cats are famous for having almost no fur, and that means they can feel the cold and sun more strongly than other cats. They usually need protection from both extremes, with a warm place in cool weather and shade or limited sun in warm weather. They also tend to be very social, affectionate, and warm to the touch. Their skin needs occasional care, and a vet can advise on bathing and sunscreen. Ducklings, meanwhile, like warmth too, and they cope with heat badly, so shade and fresh water matter. Always supervise any cat around baby birds.

Both the cat and the ducklings seem to appreciate the cool, dappled shade. The ducklings look comfortable and trusting, and the Sphynx has a regal, protective air. Under the apple tree, the afternoon moves slowly and kindly, with nothing to do but rest, listen to the leaves, and keep one another company until evening arrives.
