A Border Collie and a Bunny Settled Into a Warm Barn Corner
Under the glow of a hanging barn lamp, a black and white Border Collie lies stretched out on a bed of straw with his white paws crossed in front of him. A small brown bunny sits just beside him, her ears relaxed and her eyes on the camera. Rope hangs on the wooden wall behind them, and a wheelbarrow and some old feed sacks wait in the shadows. Dust floats through the warm lamp light and the smell of hay fills the air.
Barns can be wonderful places for animals, but they also need some care. Straw makes a warm bed for many animals, though dusty or moldy bedding can cause breathing problems, so it should be clean and dry. Rabbits do best with hay to nibble, and a corner that stays free of drafts and damp is best. Border Collies are intelligent working dogs, and many have a natural gentleness that suits small farm animals, especially when they have been taught calm manners.
They share the straw as though they have done it every evening. The dog is relaxed, and the bunny feels safe enough to sit in the open.
The lamp glows, the barn is quiet, and the day's work is done. It is a good place to be for a dog and a rabbit alike. Nobody is in a hurry to leave.
