Three Ducklings Climbed a Ginger Cat and He Let Them
Lying flat on a woven rug, a fluffy ginger cat has become the busiest spot in the house. Three ducklings are perched on his back like little yellow hats, two more stand by his front legs, and another is wandering behind him. His big tail stretches across the floor in a golden spiral. A laundry hamper with folded towels stands behind him and a houseplant leans toward the light. The cat just rests, eyes soft, and lets the whole thing happen.
Maine Coons have a well-earned reputation for patience. They're often described as gentle and good with children and other animals, and they tend to mature slowly, staying playful for several years. Their long, shaggy coat has a water-resistant feel and benefits from regular brushing, especially around the belly and tail where tangles form. Because they're so large, they often need sturdy cat trees and roomy beds. Real ducklings should never be left loose with a cat, no matter how mellow, because even a playful swat can hurt a baby bird. A person should always be watching.
For the picture, though, the cat is the calm center of a tiny hurricane. The ducklings climb and wobble, and he doesn't move a whisker. Somehow it looks like this is exactly how he planned to spend the morning, with a whole crowd of tiny friends and nothing else on the schedule.
