A Shiba Inu Puppy and a Pony Take Their Morning Walk Along the Fence
The farmyard is quiet, with bare trees in the background and a weathered fence running along the path. A tan Shiba Inu puppy walks along it with his mouth open in a small smile, ears pricked and eyes bright. Next to him, a fluffy sandy-colored pony takes slow, even steps with his head turned toward his little companion. A shed and a patch of hay are visible in the distance. They look as if they walk this route every morning.
Shiba Inus are alert, curious and full of energy, and they enjoy a good walk as much as any dog. They are intelligent but independent, which means that training works best when it is consistent and rewarding. Because they can be strong-willed, they usually need a secure fence and a leash outdoors, since a Shiba may be tempted to chase after something interesting. Ponies are great walkers too and are used to covering ground in small steps. Any outing between a puppy and a pony should have a person alongside, to guide and keep both safe.
There is something comforting about two animals walking at the same pace. The puppy's steps are quick and the pony's are slow, but somehow they've matched up. The fence line stretches ahead, and so does the morning. It is an easy, unhurried sort of friendship, the kind that doesn't need chatter, just a path, a fence and someone to share it with.
