The Front Yard Became a Tiny Graveyard. One Resident Is More Worried Than Spooky.

The front yard has been transformed into a miniature graveyard, with gray foam tombstones planted in the grass, stretchy cobwebs draped between them, and little pumpkins tucked among the fallen leaves. Peeking out from behind the nearest headstone, a round-faced gray Persian kitten clutches the edge with one paw-width of courage. Her fluffy coat stands out in every direction, and her wide copper eyes stare up with an expression that's more worried than spooky. A rake, a coiled garden hose, and pots of mums by the porch show the yard work isn't quite finished.

Many cat lovers today choose to keep their cats indoors, and a gentle long-haired breed like the Persian is especially well suited to indoor life. Indoor cats are protected from traffic, predators, fights with other animals, and many parasites and diseases, and they tend to live longer on average. The key is providing enough enrichment to keep them happy: window perches, scratching posts, climbing spaces, puzzle feeders, and daily play. If you'd like your cat to enjoy fresh air safely, supervised time on a harness or a secure enclosed patio, often called a catio, offers outdoor smells and sights without the risks.

This little one looks like she'd be happy to trade the spooky yard for a soft cushion inside. A quick scoop and a trip back indoors would probably suit her just fine.

Every haunted yard needs a resident spirit. This one just happens to be fluffy and very easily startled.
