This Jack-o'-Lantern Came With a Surprise Inside
This jack-o'-lantern came with a surprise inside. A long-haired chocolate Dachshund puppy peeks over the cut rim of a carved pumpkin, both little front paws draped over the edge and a few wisps of pumpkin pulp stuck to its whiskers. Its silky ears frame a sweet face with warm brown eyes and a tiny pink tongue just poking out. The pumpkin's grinning carved face glows orange beneath it, with seeds still visible inside. Behind it, the front door, a pair of sneakers, a coat hook, and a wicker basket of blankets fill the entryway.
Long-haired Dachshunds have a soft, flowing coat and the same bold, curious spirit as their smooth-coated cousins. Their long backs and short legs mean it is wise to discourage jumping off high places and to keep them at a healthy weight. Pumpkins themselves are not toxic, and plain cooked pumpkin is even a common dog treat. Carved jack-o'-lanterns are a different story, since they can start to mold and rot quickly, which may upset a dog's stomach. Never leave a lit candle inside a pumpkin your pet can reach, and toss carved pumpkins once they start to soften.
Who needs a candle when the pumpkin can hold something this bright? This little Halloween surprise has turned an ordinary decoration into the cutest thing on the block, no carving skills required.
