A Carved Pumpkin Had a Tiny Orange Kitten Peeking Out of the Top
Ears up and chin resting on the rim, a tiny orange tabby kitten peeks out of the top of a big carved jack-o'-lantern. The pumpkin's triangle eyes and jagged smile stare out from below while the kitten's own bright eyes look off in a different direction. Sneakers, a backpack, and a laundry basket crowd the entryway behind it, and a few dry leaves have blown across the floor.
A hollowed-out pumpkin makes a surprisingly good hiding spot, and kittens love enclosed spaces that feel safe and secret. Orange tabbies are known for friendly, outgoing personalities, though every kitten is different. Whatever the coat color, young cats need lots of safe play and quiet naps to grow up healthy.
If a pumpkin is going to be a kitten's playhouse, a few safety points matter. Never put a lit candle inside a pumpkin when there is a kitten around, since flames and curious whiskers do not mix. A carved pumpkin also spoils quickly, can grow mold, and has sharp, cut edges that could scratch tiny paws. Keep the kitten from chewing it, and clear away seeds and scraps. Your vet can help with questions about pumpkin treats and cat diets.
For now, this little jack-o'-lantern passenger looks perfectly content. The pumpkin grins, the kitten peeks, and the whole entryway is full of Halloween cheer.
