A Boston Terrier Kept an Eye on the Mug of Hot Cocoa
The cocoa is hot, the marshmallows are floating, and a black and white Boston Terrier is ready to supervise. He sits beside the coffee table with his big dark eyes fixed on the mug, his ears upright, and his white chest neatly framed. A garland-draped couch, a knit blanket, and a window with a bare winter tree fill the cozy room behind him.
Hot cocoa is a classic holiday treat, but it's not for dogs. Chocolate contains theobromine, which dogs can't process well, and it can make them sick. Marshmallows are also sugary and, in sugar-free versions, may contain xylitol, which is dangerous. Keep mugs away from the edge of tables, and clean up any spills right away. If your dog laps up some cocoa, call your vet for advice.
Boston Terriers are alert, social dogs who love to be part of the action, and they can be very good at looking hopeful. This one has the look down perfectly, with big round eyes and a head tilted just slightly. A dog treat or a warm blanket is a much better choice for sharing the moment. Still, it's hard not to smile at such a polite supervisor, sitting quietly beside his family's winter treat. His ears swivel at the clink of a spoon, and his tail gives a hopeful little wag. A warm blanket and a belly rub would make a fine trade.
