The Stockings Were Hung With Care. The Russian Blue Was Out Cold.
Under three hanging stockings, one cream, one red, and one deep green, a blue-grey Russian Blue is sound asleep. His chin rests on his paw, his eyes are shut tight, and his plush silvery coat makes a soft shape against the floor. Greenery trails along the mantel above, and the room behind him is full of the leftover scatter of a happy holiday week. A mug and a few scattered toys sit by the window, a gentle reminder that the family has been busy all day.
Russian Blues are known for that dense, shimmering coat and bright green eyes, which are hidden here by sleep. They are often described as gentle, a little shy with strangers, and devoted to their own people. Many like a steady routine, so a quiet nap spot away from the busiest foot traffic is a gift all by itself.
Cats can sleep for well over half the day, and that is normal. A warm, safe place near the family lets them rest while still feeling part of things. If a cat suddenly sleeps much more or less than usual, or seems off in other ways, a call to the vet is the sensible next step.
We can call him Smokey. He may have missed the stocking-stuffing entirely, but he looks like the most relaxed guest at the whole holiday party, and nobody would dream of waking him. There is something lovely about a cat who sleeps so deeply in the middle of a bustling house, trusting that everything around him is safe.
