A Yellow Lab Puppy Looked Up at the Paper Bats Above Him
A yellow Labrador puppy sits on the wooden floor of the entryway with his round face tilted up, and a garland of paper bats and leaves hangs over his head. His ears are soft and low, his black nose gleams, and his dark eyes seem to hold a question. Behind him, a green blanket, a basket, and a pair of jeans lie around the entryway. Fallen leaves are scattered at the corner of the floor, and the bats are cut out in sharp black against the warm orange of the pumpkins.
Labrador Retrievers are among the friendliest dogs in the world, and they are known for being eager to please and fond of food. Puppies need a lot of chewing and play, plus consistent training to help them grow into well-behaved adults. Labs love to retrieve, so games of fetch help them use up energy.
Puppies often explore the world with their mouths, so decorations at floor level can end up in a Lab's belly. Paper garlands, string, and small ornaments may cause blockages if swallowed. Hang them high, and keep a safe chew toy handy. If he chews something he should not, call your vet.
For a moment he is simply sitting and waiting, as if the bats above him might do something interesting at any second. It is a small moment of wonder in a busy house, and he is very content to have a front-row seat.
