A Black Pug Puppy Sat Beside the Candy Bowl and Looked at the Door
A small black Pug puppy sits on the tile near the open front door, looking toward the street with his wrinkled brow and stubby ears. Next to him is a glass bowl of wrapped candy, and a few pieces have rolled out onto the floor. A jacket hangs on the wall behind him, and the afternoon light slips through the door. His tail curls in a little black comma behind him, and his shoes-on-the-mat view is the stuff of puppy dreams.
Pugs are small, comical dogs with expressive faces and a loving nature. They enjoy being near their people and can be very food-motivated, so portions need watching. As a flat-faced breed, they can have breathing trouble in heat or when stressed, so a harness and cool, calm walks are better than hard exercise.
A candy bowl by the door is an open invitation to a hungry puppy. Chocolate and sugar-free sweets are harmful to dogs, and wrappers are a choking hazard. Place the bowl up high or in a closed container, and make sure the puppy cannot slip out when the door opens. If he eats anything he should not, call your vet.
For now he seems more interested in the street than the sweets, with the patient look of a dog who knows the doorbell will ring soon. A good puppy knows that waiting is sometimes the most important part, and he seems to be doing it very well.
