A Jack Russell Puppy Waited on the Step in Front of the Wreath Door
On the front step, a scruffy tricolor Jack Russell puppy sits in front of a green door decorated with a thick wreath of pine and pinecones. His dark eyes look up and his ears hang forward, and bits of white fur stick out around his muzzle. A red plaid scarf lies near the step, and the hallway behind him is crowded with boots, bags, and baskets. A pinecone and some pine needles have collected on the stone, and the whole entryway has a lived-in, welcoming look.
Jack Russell Terriers are small dogs with big energy. They are intelligent, bold, and stubborn, and they need plenty of exercise and mental work. A puppy that does not get enough activity may dig, bark, or chew, so daily walks, puzzle toys, and short training sessions help a lot.
A wreath on the door is lovely, but real greenery like pine can irritate a dog's mouth and stomach if chewed, and some holiday plants such as holly and mistletoe are toxic. Keep the wreath above his reach and sweep up fallen needles. A puppy waiting at a door should always be supervised, and a leash or gate keeps him from dashing out.
He sits patiently at the threshold, as if listening for footsteps, and the green door and the warm wreath make a welcoming frame for him. Few things say home like a puppy at the door, and this one has just the right look of hope.
