The Tabby Kitten Turned a String of Christmas Lights Into a Glow-Up
Somewhere along the way, a string of Christmas lights ended up draped across a brown tabby kitten, and she has decided to treat it as jewelry. She reclines on a chunky knit blanket, front paws tucked, whiskers fanned out, looking off to one side with calm green eyes. The little bulbs glow warm around her, and a lamp and a dark window behind her make the room feel snug and golden.
American Shorthairs are sturdy, even-tempered cats whose tabby markings come from a classic working-cat heritage. They tend to be adaptable and playful, and kittens of the breed are usually very curious about anything that glows, dangles or moves, which makes a loose string of lights a magnet.
This moment is cute, but light strings and cords are worth treating carefully around kittens. Chewing on a cord can cause burns or shocks, and wrapped wires can tangle around a small body. Unplug lights when you are not watching, tuck cords behind furniture or into cord covers, and consider placing the lower branches of the tree out of reach. If she ever chews a cord, talk to your vet.
Still, in this quiet instant, she looks completely at peace, a tiny tabby queen wearing a crown of tiny stars. Any attempt to untangle her will no doubt be met with mild disapproval.
